Man I love the beginning of VCDC, it's the same every time. There's always a huge buzz, and for once the whole community comes together in one place. I was thinking, we should make use of this ability to contact and galvanise such a diverse bunch of players, and perhaps hold a few mini-events that are related to the tournament.
What sort of mini-events? Well, how about, as a start, a launch party?
If we had a launch party, what would you like it to look like? Where would it be? How long would it last? What sort of game-mode do you think would be a good idea?
Personally I think a huge TDM in a relatively small area (maybe Prawn Island, a la SvM) would be cool. Or maybe a Starfish Island every-man-for-himself deathmatch? The official event could last an hour, but if we host our own server, then perhaps we could keep it open for a bit longer than that - say, 4 hours - so that people who wish to keep brawling could do so.
