Farewell Board / Re: Retiring
« on: December 24, 2019, 12:38:04 pm »
wait you took this decision because yesterday I just release some comments against your work? I mean I just throw some words against the map of vicewar even krystanoo also put the same point that what I said. you also replied their a line "Members of staff shouldn't be complaining in all fairness(With a fake smile). this happening cause of this issue or which thing make your mind to do this?

I'm really sorry if you took my words too much deeply ofc, I am nothing and how I can make a question on your work. but that was just a suggestion about map. if that was the reason so please I apologize for that. you are good with your work. every year we enjoyed a lot the VC:MP events cause of you guys. I just want to say work on it and keep bright the VU name.

No no no, nothing of the sort, that's playful. I'm just legit tired either way, plus life is catching up to me. Most of my work is done in the summer break for example, I won't have that luxury anymore as I'll be completely absent every summer now for the next 4 or so years, leaving my only break to be the 3 weeks I get in Christmas, cant do much out of that at all.

Vice War 8's development was its own mental stress though, by far the worst stress I've ever gone through organizing an event sake of scripting first, then features second. Not everytime availability lines up, not everytime people see the vision or deem whats important to you important to them, not everytime people do their work properly and you have to go over it, and everytime a bug will present itself where for some you have to chase devs in order to fix...so ensuring the stability and safety of it all takes a huge toll that I'm not willing to go through once more.

My comment though does have frustration at its root. There are a lot of times I test bugs alone cuz nobody else will, and whilst I may have a staff of 30 people, 80% of the time if I don't do something personally, it never gets done, so I end up doing a lot more work than I should, all for the sake of seeing the project through. That takes its toll.

The beta yesterday for example, I had really wanted to finish something simple as tuning the vehicles handling to present how better it is to drive on the map, but no vehicle changes were pushed cuz I couldn't manage. I had already found the settings to tune, and the values needed, just need to be placed in an XML, anyone can write that up but alas it boils down to me. The bases looking empty like no cover, that is not my wish, I simply cannot manage. You give the work to someone else and you have a deadline, nothing happens, so you forced to take it up yourself. You ask for skins and say they're never found or dealt with, so the options of having more than one skin doesnt come cuz its too much for me to go look for that....etc etc...That leads to an unpolished product overall, too dependent on one or a few persons. Thats what development role looks like.

So the community sees a final product, an end result, but dont see the stress it put you through to even get to wherever it ends. Every server in VC:MP that depends on a team goes through this, Vice War aint special. It burns us all out and my time has come.

Am I missing something here? Retiring from what, exactly?

The last 3 membergroups on my account is an example. Within the community I've been called to do a lot of directing of new server projects, gamemode ideas, make/edit maps, make GUI design, make artwork, even web design ideas etc. I'm retiring from all of that. I only have one thing left for an old friend that I promised I'd help with from months back, that is gonna be one of my last VC:MP works.

For CTF and EAD, especially EAD, more an advisory role now. Helping out old friends but not actively responsible for making stuff. When I pass through VC:MP every once in a while, I'll be enjoying whatever you guys make now.

Well, its been a long ride, but after 10 years going into my 11th, I think its finally my turn. The candle is about burnt out.

Typing this, I still remember the first time I ever found VC:MP.

Joined in XE with like 3 FPS in my army skin in 2008, till I got a PC that could run the game in 2009, starting the true VC:MP journey. Joining Vice Underdogs, playing out the Vice Wars, watching VC:MP evolve from 0.3z to 0.3 r2 to 0.4, participating in clan events, making the forum banner you see today, remodeling the theme of the WAP version to this forum, managing and administrating some servers, directing Vice Wars themselves since VW5, documenting and researching some facts for VC:MP forums, all the way to creating custom models, for truly custom maps and vehicles, all your own and providing all the tools and the help needed to make it possible. I've done a lot, done a whole lot.

Still apart of VU, the one and only clan I've ever been in for all those years, that's not gonna change. I'm admin to only 2 servers now, CTF and EAD, not resigning from either, I'll be passing through, but server events and my influence in them, that is coming to an end I'm afraid. So to everyone, enjoy this edition of Vice War in particular, it's gonna be the last one directed by me. Time for me to truly rest, and I'll be resting when the new decade starts.

Public Beta 2

On Monday, December 23rd, 2019, we will unlock the server and launch Public Beta 2 for our participants to test on. The server will be in a state that is either the finished product or as close to the final product as possible. That means, on the priority list, we hope to provide all vehicles currently missing (Carrier Helicopter, changes to Bus, changes to Bomber Plane), tune all land vehicles to better support the terrain, finish lacking structural amenities at certain bases (Mining Site A and B, Ship Hull) and other map, model and script changes.

The server will be opened to the public at 00:00 GMT. It is set to last 24 hours, as like the main event.

UID Mismatch Cases

On Monday, December 23rd, 2019, we will resume our usual stance of ONE UID mismatch request. If you have not resolved your UID mismatching issues with your account after this date, you will only have one chance thereafter to reset your account. Any subsequent requests after your one request will be ignored, therefore meaning you will not be able to participate in the event.

Registration

Registrations will close on Friday, December 27th, 2019. You will no longer be able to register on the Portal after this date. The benchmark server will still be available to currently registered participants. UID mismatch requests can still be made and will be processed even on the day of the event.

Server Discussion / Re: Top 5 servers
« on: December 20, 2019, 06:11:30 pm »
My top 5:

CTF - everybody knows I love CTF. I think it has the best practical use case of objective and fast-paced combat of all other servers. Also works well for competitive clan wars, however, cheap tactics is all you need.

EAD - being a cannon fodder, one life thing ain't really my style, but its a really a nice competitive gamemode nonetheless. Because of its nature, its a more slower paced competitive gamemode than CTF is, but it brings out the tactician in you far better than CTF ever could. Works well for clan wars just as well as CTF does.

EC - the XE replacement as Charley said, I'm sorry, lol but doesn't mean its bad, it's quite the necessary server to have just non-competitive craziness.

Miami-Dade - racing. If I could script I'd make a lot of these types of servers to be honest. I appreciate the long-term effort to promote racing from a very simplistic script.

VKs - credit where credit is due, I spawned a Hunter in this server one day fighting a Sea Sparrow around VCPD at Washington Beach. That experience is where Vice War 8's push for aerial warfare came from. That shit was too fun to give up on, I had to change the dynamic this year  ;D

Some mentions:

VCCNR - a lil confusing for my taste but I deeply appreciate the effort put there

LW - whether 2009 or 2019, I still don't like this server. XE any day. I appreciate the push for stability though. Back in the day I think you had 100 kills the server would crash or some shit? And was the only server that really made sniper popular to me (though it had VIP access back then).

Argonath - not much of a role play fan but its a solid enough RPG experience for VC:MP. Heists were fun but hard to setup. Taxes too fucking high and they robbed all my cash in the bank account.

Liberty City Unleashed - for how many years now have I seen this server empty for? It's like Miami-Dade unfortunately, but it is refreshing map wise. In my opinion they should combine cuz Vice City is no map to race on, and Libery City Unleashed is just...there.

PTP/KTB/RTV - I wished they weren't EAD/CTF style. They could've been handled differently in my opinion, especially PTP since I was making one myself but got beat to it

SvM - I'm not a VU if you ask me my activity for this server lol

May i know why my app got rejected ? and by which admin ? i've done the fps test its all good  why it's rejected ?
my nick is Wsx2  maybe you rejected it because you thought i am using multi accounts, Wsx5 and Wsx4 is not me

I am the one that rejected your application, forgive me for not alerting you on such. The reason for your rejection is because I need better identification of you and in extension the other Wsx's. It would be one thing to make in game accounts of these names, it is a totally different thing when 3 forum accounts from 3 differing countries all register on the same day with this naming scheme. Who are you all really?

I am going to need your game history, the servers you play on, past nicknames. If any of you tell me you're new to VC:MP, you will not participate so please PM me the details, thank you.

UID Mismatch / Re: UID mismatch Ban

Your account has been reset. Retake the benchmark tests and I'll reapprove if you pass all 4 on the new system

Dude this is what im not talking about.
Everytime i do join server i get kick instantly so what should i do now?

Because you're literally ignoring this.

You need to redo the benchmark test first. Thats whats holding you back right now. So redo the test, pass all 4 tests and then I can reapprove you; every ban-unban removes this record

Denied Applications / Re: Application - imkiki
« on: December 14, 2019, 02:29:38 pm »
As some have said, I admire your work and think you're one of the few left that can really tax out 0.4 features besides just making the typical server. Before Drake came along, you did offer your services when we were in need of a scripter for VW8. And even before that, you did offer your services towards VW7 too. You should speak to me personally more rather than let ELK advocate as a side point but the only reason you didn't get the job to its full extent is trust, especially with that VW7 one where we actually started but had to completely quarantine your work and so on.

Keep doing what you're doing, and if you ever feel like you wanna take on some projects I have as a means to build trust with me, let me know, I have a few. Voted neutral

Denied Applications / Re: Application - BanJack
« on: December 12, 2019, 10:41:31 pm »
I don't really know what's going on in this application, but I did not keenly read through this app the first time. So you're No_Mercy, alright. I have been operating oblivious to that fact, didn't read carefully the first time like I said. I do however respect the fact that you did state it. Idk for sure if nobody would've known but I definitely wouldn't have otherwise, don't have the time.

I'll say it straight though that I think it would be quite the foolish idea and embarrassment for us of Vice Underdogs to re-accept you. Completely asinine.

Read well, the clan is not a springboard. A lot of you come here, do your damage to the nest and the name of the clan, go away without a care in the world, someday get enlightened then decide to return "home", wanting to rebuild back trust. I am not a non-believer of that play of life, I welcome that dynamic as your noble deed for atonement, however, this is my opinion - rebuild back trust through a next clan or clanless, but not through reapplying to VU. There are consequences for your actions, and for me, your days are done here. Done.

A discussion will be made regarding your application that will decide whether I auto-deny this or not, out of respect of the opinions of my fellow clanmates. I strongly believe you don't deserve this kind of privilege ever again.

Topic locked till further notice.

FAQs / [FAQ] UID Mismatch
« on: December 11, 2019, 02:44:10 pm »

UID Mismatch

  • Q: What is UID Mismatch and what causes it?

A: UID mismatch is a mismatching of the unique ID tied to your ingame account from your PC system. The mismatch happens typically due to upgrades / reinstalls to your operating system, but it can also result from hardware changes such as changing your motherboard.

  • Q: Why does UID mismatch result in a autoban?

A: We use UID to identify an account as a single, unique person that has registered for the event. We do not allow multiple ingame accounts by the same person, as such, UID mismatch is enforced by an automatic ban and locking of the account afflicted.

  • Q: How do I unban my account?

A: To unban your account, create a new topic in the UID mismatch boards of the Reports section (click here for a quick link). If successfully unbanned, you will need to retake the benchmark tests and be reapproved in order to participate in the event.

Read carefully the sticky topics on updates, as in general, you can only make ONE unban request before we permanently lock your account.

  • Q: Why do I need to retake the benchmark tests?

A: As stated, UID updates can also be a result from hardware changes; a participant may upgrade his system components in order to participate in the event. As a result, it is mandatory that you have to retake the benchmark tests and go over the approval process on your account. All previous benchmarks are erased upon account resetting.

  • Q: I have sibling(s) that wish to participate in the event. We share computers, can we still participate?

A: Short answer is yes, they will be able to play. Long answer is it comes with some conditions. We must receive a notification of who this sibling is by detailing their account name and the servers that they play on. We will use these details to assess legitimacy. Details of Discord account better your chances of approval as well. If we are unsatisfied with the evidence presented, or if no evidence is presented at all, all associated accounts will be denied to participate in the event.
