Off Topic / The Weeknd credits Vice City for Blinding Lights
« on: November 29, 2021, 03:24:31 am »
Dunno if you guys saw this. The Weeknd's song 'Blinding Lights' became the most successful US Billboard song in history last week, and he credited Vice City.

Quote
"Vice City really opened my eyes to a lot of ’80s music, so there was a nostalgia for when I was a kid playing video games and listening to Hall & Oates and Michael Jackson while driving through the city."

Pretty rad.

Off Topic / IT IS HAPPENING - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. edition
« on: December 17, 2020, 12:39:53 pm »
There probably isn't a lot of you here that are fans of the STALKER series

I fucking love that series. Besides VC:MP, it's pretty much my most-played game. There was a new mod called Call of the Zone released earlier this year which is definitely worth playing - it's almost like an entire sequel, combining the best elements of all three games in the series.

2020 / Graphics
« on: December 02, 2020, 12:44:25 pm »
If anyone would like to create some graphics for the awards, feel free to do so and share them here.

No guidelines, let your imaginations run wild. You could do a forum banner for them, or a graphic for each category. Whatever you like. If the graphics are good, we'll try and find a way to use them.

2020 / Information - Servers of the Year
« on: December 02, 2020, 01:11:30 am »
Server of the Year

What's it about?
We always see the end result, but rarely the effort that goes into making the server perfect. Vice Underdogs would like to make sure every server is being recognised for making outstanding contributions to VCMP.

In order to appreciate the servers, VU is holding awards and providing platform to determine the best servers in this community, voted for by the community.

How to vote?
Different topics will be created for each category. There will be a poll for each server nominee in which you can vote. You need at least 50 posts to be able to vote. You can change your vote once you have voted.

How do I get my server selected as a nominee?
We opened nominations on 2nd December, they will close on 14th December and voting will begin.

When will be the winners announced?
January 1st

Cheers everyone!

VC:MP General / Idea to save VC:MP
« on: July 31, 2020, 03:11:56 am »
Problem

There is apparently a dwindling playercount in the mod.

Cause

You might say that it's because Vice City is an old-ass game, and VC:MP is outdated or buggy. Or that we have outdated gamemodes. Fine, but that's always been the case. People have been making that same argument since the day that VC:MP was born.

Take a look at the official VC:MP forum. This is the first point of contact for anyone new to the mod. It is a graveyard. It's a boring, semi-forgotten wasteland of half-literate randomers. I put it to you that this is the main problem.

If you searched 'Vice City Multiplayer' on Google, and found that forum, would you be interested to explore the mod and its community? Fuck no.

The biggest draw of the mod is its community, but for potential new players, the community is barely visible.

Problem 2

The VC:MP forum is dead.

Cause

The developers kept the official forum under lock and key from the community. In what other platform do the product developers have control over the product, but also 100% control and responsibility over the marketing, PR and community management around the product? None. Why? Because they're product developers.

My assumption is that the devs hoped to be impartial towards the community, to give the community a game to play, but prevent any individuals or groups from monopolizing or regulating access to that game. That is a laudible, but incomplete approach. For it to work, they would need to find another way to stimulate balanced community activity. Just making boards on a forum and allowing people to post is evidently not enough.

Solution

Create a community management team.

The community management team should be responsible for representing the official voice of VC:MP. They can endorse events, partner with other event organisers, and also coordinate and create official VC:MP events. They are responsible for keeping the official forum interesting and active, engaging every segment of the community - not just those which are dominant.

I would suggest the following leadership structure:

Quote

Community Admins
These are normal Community Managers, but with a bit more responsibility. They have full access to moderate the forum, create and modify boards and categories, create and set membergroups, and administrate users; they're responsible for settling any disputes or deadlocks among community managers; they're responsible for creating and maintaining an official VC:MP ethos. They have the same voting power as the Community Managers.

Community Managers

Permanent (unless voted out) members of the community responsible for creating official events, endorsing partner events, driving activity on the official forum.

Community Leaders

Temporary leaders who are brought in to help manage particular events or campaigns. E.g. There might be an official VC:MP Ladder event, and the community managers want some people to help manage it, so they bring on temporary Community Leaders.

Who?

The initial batch of Community Managers can be partially appointed, and partially voted in. It would have to be in discussion with Stormeus or Maxorator. Here is my suggestion for the appointees:

Quote

Community Admins
Morphine
Thijn
Charley
Klaus

Community Managers
aXXo
Krys
AngelofDeath
Aaron
Siezer
Wilson
jah (just kidding)
Gangstrag
Sevrin
Halchter
FaF
Xmair

How?

The only way for this to happen is to convince the developers that this is a good idea.

Vote agree on this post to voice your support, and anyone who has access to Stormeus or Maxorator, get this in front of their faces.

After 12 years of witnessing people complain about inactivity in VC:MP, I think it is time that take this issue into our own hands.

News and Announcements / Reminder: No Doxxing
« on: July 18, 2020, 09:47:04 am »
Hello all,

I'm excited to see rivalries heat up on the forum, VC:MP is nothing without drama. We have always allowed posts that are critical of our clan (except in the applications board), we encourage free discussion, because we feel confident enough about ourselves that we don't need to resort to censorship.

However, I would just like to remind people that doxxing is forbidden. Doxxing is the publication of an individual's private information or pictures without their consent.

I have warned one person today, but this can be considered a warning to everyone - there is a line, do not cross it.

Rivalries are part of the game. It's important that they remain part of the game, and not step outside of those bounds into real life.

VC:MP General / Call to action: Cyberpunk VC:MP map
« on: July 03, 2020, 05:27:37 am »
Are there any good mappers here?

If so, please, please, please make a cyberpunk style custom map we can play on.

Is it even possible? I don't really know how flexible VC:MP is in terms of lighting.

Maybe it could be an opensource project, or one with a central coordinator and a few people helping out?

My suggestion: start with just an alleyway, maybe use one of the alleys behind the hotel in Vice Beach.

News and Announcements / Please do not reply to spambots
« on: May 01, 2020, 02:57:41 am »
We've been getting an influx of spambots over the past month or so, creating random topics or posts.

Please do not reply in these threads.

We have to clean them up, and it is more time consuming if we also have to remove your posts.

Thanks.

Guides / --- Guide to the guide board ---
« on: March 01, 2020, 12:36:06 pm »
Over the years, various members have posted various very useful guides on the forum. Up until now, they've been placed scattershot across the different forum boards.

After Gangsta's Digital Artwork guide, I thought they are deserving of their own board - his guide is simply too good to be lumped into the 'Off Topic' board.

Want to post a guide here? Cool! The only rule is that it must be a guide written by yourself, or a repost of a guide made elsewhere by a member of the VC:MP community, with credits.

Happy sharing folks!
