Finals - Elimination Stage (ENDED) / VCDC Finals
« on: August 25, 2015, 07:20:05 am »
Stage 3
The Finals

In the final stage, the eight players still standing compete in a single-elimination bracket.

Two months have passed since the start of this season. 132 matches in total have been scheduled. Two stages later, it's finally time to crown a winner!

The stakes have also been raised. This last stage is a single-elimination bracket. As a result, a loss in the quarterfinals results in complete elimination from the tournament. A loss in the semifinals results an advance to the third-place match.

Players have been seeded according to their performance in the Swiss knockout stage; high-seeded players will face off against the lower-seeded.

This format change has resulted in modifications to the rules. Read below.

The admins have also agreed to divide up some of the prize pool money to reward everyone who has advanced to this stage.

Prize Distribution
All eight fighters who have advanced to this stage will receive a $250,000 reward on Littlewhitey's. The four fighters who advance to the semifinals will receive an additional $500,000. The remaining prize money will be divided up as mentioned in the prize pool thread: 50% for first place, 30% for second, and 20% for third.

The prize distribution now looks like this:
  • $19,824,703 ($19,074,703 first place prize + $750,000)
  • $12,194,822 ($11,444,822 second place prize + $750,000
  • $8,379,881 ($7,629,881 third place prize + $750,000)
  • $750,000
  • $250,000
  • $250,000
  • $250,000
  • $250,000

To receive your reward, contact Stormeus.

At the time of your match, have any VCDC Admin or Referee administer your match. Contact information for referees and admins can be found here.

The Rules

Elimination matches are much riskier — a single loss results in complete elimination from the tournament. In order to give fighters a good opportunity to prove their skills, the way matches are conducted will change.

Rather than using the typical set/round system that were used in groups and Swiss, matches will be played until one player reaches nine points. After a player wins nine rounds, the game is over and that player is the winner. Whether a game is 9-0 or 9-8, the first person to get nine points advances in the tournament.

Because this is an elimination bracket, there won't be any more scoring.

Because the summer is winding down, and in order to avert any unnecessary stress, there are no deadlines for match completion. However, we do ask that fighters don't delay their matches for a month because of this fact.

Swiss Knockout Stage (ENDED) / Retroactive Score Updates
« on: August 14, 2015, 06:29:19 pm »
In order to minimize scoring discrepancies due to zero points being awarded for unplayed matches, the admin team has discussed ways to prevent players from being put at a disadvantage for being unable to play a match in some situations.

This is the consensus among active admin team members:

Any matches unplayed because both fighters neglected to organize it will remain 0-0 ties. This means that neither competitor made an effort to contact their opponent on the forum, on IRC, or by any other means.

Any matches unplayed because one fighter tried to arrange a match and the other did not respond become 1-0 wins. If a fighter can provide evidence (e.g. logs or forum posts) that they made a good faith effort to start a match and the other did not respond, their scores will be retroactively updated. This effectively gives the organizing fighter three points.

Any matches unplayed because both fighters tried to arrange a match but could not do so in time can still be played. Even if the round for the unplayed match has passed, the scores will be updated retroactively when the match is played.

This should also encourage fighters to make use of their options for contacting fighters to arrange matches ahead of time.

Because of this policy, and based on current evidence on the forum, the following matches are currently affected:
  • R1 — Jean. vs. [EAF]Klaus can be played. An effort was made by both fighters to arrange a match but it seems Jean's PC was unavailable for the second half of the round.
  • R1 — [SS]ahMexican vs. TLK.UnbalancedTheory can be played. Thread was made early on last day of round and AEO was online early the next day, though too late to respond.
  • R1 — [SS]Flamesay vs. [EAF]SpiralRock will remain unplayed. No effort seemed to be made to arrange this match.
  • R2 — [EAF]Klaus vs. [SS]Flamesay will become a 1-0 win for Klaus. Thread shows Klaus attempted to arrange a match and showed his availability but Flamesay did not respond as he's been inactive on the forum since July 6.

If fighters affected by this would like to update the staff with any relevant logs, the status of these matches will be updated.

Each round, players' matches will be determined based on their performance in the round before. For the first round, each player will face off against whoever else in their group advanced.

Each round is expected to be completed within five days. Each player will only play one match each round. At the end of this round, the top 8 players will advance to a single-elimination bracket to find a winner.

Swiss Knockout Stage (ENDED) / VCDC Swiss Knockout Overview
« on: July 22, 2015, 11:00:38 pm »
Stage 2
Swiss Knockout

In the Swiss stage, the 24 fighters who advanced from group play will play in a modified, shortened round-robin, known as the Swiss system.

Congratulations on advancing past groups to the Swiss stage! In this stage, you will play in six rounds, each round consisting of 12 matches. Each players plays one match per round. With each completed round, your performance will be taken into consideration in order to pair you with an appropriate opponent the next round.

Once all six rounds have been completed, the top 8 players will advance to the third and final stage of the VCDC: the single elimination bracket.

Each round should be completed approximately within five days, as specified in the deadlines thread. No round can proceed until all matches in the previous round have been completed.

Find your matches here.

At the time of your match, have any VCDC Admin or Referee administer your match. Contact information for referees and admins can be found here.

Matches conducted without an admin present are invalid.

Conducting Matches
You will play a match with each player in your group.

Each match consists of three sets. In each set, you have five duels. Here's the breakdown:
  • Match — an arranged game with a player in your group with three sets
    • Set — five duels (for consistency and stats tracking, you must play all five)
      • Duel — a single round that ends when an opponent is killed

Players must start each duel with 100HP and 0 armour.

Scoring
For each match win, the winner gets 2 points.
For each set win, the winner gets 1 point.
No points are deducted for losses.

If a player wins three sets and therefore the match, they gain 5 points. If a player wins two sets and the match, they gain 4 points. If a player loses two sets but wins one set, they still gain 1 point.

At the end of the group stage, the two players in each group with the most points advance.

Exception: If a duel ends with both fighters killing each other simultaneously, the duel will be discarded. It will not count towards the score.

Starting a Match
  • Join the server you and your opponent will be dueling on.
  • Use /newmatch and use /addblue to invite your opponent to join.
  • Have an admin use /referee to join your game as a ref.
Note that there is no automatic scorekeeping on the server and health is not automatically restored on kills.

Morphine would have won four points for this match: two for the win, one for the 0-5 round, and one for the 1-4 round. I would have won a point for the 3-2 round.
