mIRC problem

Since moving to uni I can only connect to irc occasionally. I get the error

[16:41:50] * Unable to connect to server (Connection attempt timed out)
-
[16:41:53] * Connect retry #1 irc.gtanet.com (6667) (dns pool)

I've extended the timeout allowance to 120 and done a dnsflush and still nothing. Any ideas?

weird, do you use old mIRC crap? use xchat its better.this just seemed to start happening without cause? i guess you don't recall installing/configuring any network software recently? specifically add port 6667 to your firewall exceptions and if you know how to open ports in your router do it there too. though i don't think that either of those will work cuz ports don't randomly close themselves... or better just connect to irc.gtanet.com without mentioning port.give it a shot though.

Since moving to uni

This was the only change. As I'm connected to the university network I don't have access to a router or anything. So it could be a port issue I dunno, I also checked to see whether my ip was blacklisted but it didn't seem to be :\

I kinda hate Mibbit, I usually have about 30-40 channels open at once and in Mibbit that becomes a bit of a clusterfuck.

Yeah it's seams the router, maybe it's set on user not admin?

mIRC doesnt work from my uni too.

They block all ports accepting connections through server firewall.
Only the web browser works (plus some allowed apps like Messengers).

Apart from that, uTorrent, VCMP, mIRC, any online game doesnt work.

If your case is the same, you can use mibbit....since it runs through web browser.

Thanks for the suggestions Kevin, I've managed to configure mibbit so that it isn't too much of a clusterfuck now so I'll give that a go for now.
