Dog food has a chemical composition which contains aromas ( similar to the ones in any juice/sweet you ate ) which alter the original taste in a good/bad manner, but for commercial purposes it's mostly the first one.
Fishes don't get thirsty as far as I know. They get the O2 ( oxygen ) from the water through their branchies, an adaptation to their life conditions ( spending 99% of their life in water.. )
