Match Format
5 vs 5, 6 Rounds.

Participant Guidelines
- Use /spawnpass <password> to be able to spawn.
- Only 5 players can spawn at a time. Captains need to manage those 5 players. Admins won't intervene if a wrong player spawned and blocks the spot.
- You will not be able to see PMs or spectator chat.

Spectator Guidelines
- Use /spec command and Left/Right Arrow Keys to spectate players.
- Please follow generic KotH #rules.
- Anyone can record or Stream if they wish.

Hi Everyone,

King of the Hill is releasing a new patch today. The version has been bumped to KotH v2.1.

I would like to thank Luckshya for continuous hard work with adding new content and optimising the current scripts.
Also, GangstaRas and PunkNoodle who have delivered some amazing custom content to the server.

The changes are listed below. Please use our discord to discuss or clarify any questions you have. The scripts have not been thoroughly tested. If you find a bug, please report it to me.


Heckler & Koch PSG1 Sniper Rifle
The Ranger class still remains the most used class in the server due to the M4 rifle. However, the concern was that it's unlockable reward was not as good as other classes. We never saw a Sniper player influencing the match.

We have added a new weapon, which replaces the Laserscope Sniper Rifle. It is slightly superior in every way. Cheers K/D whores! Now please at least shoot the people in zone from miles away.

Damage: 50
Clip Size: 10
Slightly superior fire rate and reload speed.

Trivia: This rifle features in the Scarface movie, which heavily influenced the 80s and GTA Vice City.


Vehicle Cloning System
KotH has some chill bases that are dictated by vehicles. TDM fanatics hate these, but these bases make us unique from every other TDM server.

There was a problem with these bases, that the teams would run out of vehicles on spawn. So, we could not allow too many players in those rounds.

This has been fixed with the Vehicle Cloning System. Now the Spawns come with a Pickup. On stepping on the pickups, a new vehicle is created for the player. Hence, the bases now support unlimited players and vehicles.



New Skins
The Taxi Skin has been removed, since it has different hitboxes than the rest and hence makes it harder to hit. We have added 3 new custom skins for both red and blue teams.




Team Balancer
A team Balancer has been re-introduced to rectify the constant balance problem in the server.

This works as a classic balancer - When a team has more players, it forces you to spawn as the outnumbered team.
However, we also check how long you have been playing in that team. If you have been carrying reds for an hour, your team will stay red. The team balancer will only target players who joined the red team later.

Shuffle
Admins still have access to Shuffle teams or switch players in between rounds. The Shuffle has been improved by keeping a track of player levels. High skilled experienced players(high levels) will be put in separate teams when shuffle is used. This will attempt to evenly distribute the teams according to skill level of players.


Discord
Our community is totally based on this Discord server, so we have been trying to improve user experience here. There is an ongoing change to improve channels, categories, emojis etc.

- Echo Kill Logs format has been improved.
- Reduced the number of non-critical alerts and messages in server echo.
- Added a good looking !stats command for players.
- Admins can now use server commands from Discord.


Miscellaneous Balance Fixes
The feedback from the community is important to us. We listen, or at least try.

- Changed the Blue color to a lighter shade.
- RPG ammo has been increased to 5.
- Medikit is now deployed with RMB.
- Medikit ammo has been reduced to 1, however 1 medikit is as powerful as 3.
- The above change should help with lag caused by GUI.
- Adjusted vehicle respawn timers, that should help reduce vehicle stream lag.
- Skyscrapers and Hunter Dogfight bases have been overhauled.
- The bases which everyone love have been granted larger player limits.
- Improved the balance in Pharmacy Backyard Brawl
- Improved the balance in Printworks Money Grub

Unstable FPS(Frames Per Second) is the most likely cause of the bad sync.

Everything in VCMP happens in frames. When players have fluctuating FPS, they miss some frames. Shots that were fired in those frames do not appear to them. This defines desync.

FPS and sync is affected by everything that is added to the client side scripts. Yes, GUI is also a client side script that displays nice stuff on the screen. So, technically Hunting is absolutely right. GUI does cause desync.

But I don't think it is a major factor.

The actual problem is the client side code being used by the servers. GUI is something that the players can see with their eyes so it is the obvious culprit. But, there's a ton of stuff that could be happening in the backend client side scripts, that you don't see unless you read the code.

A bad loop or too much usage of ScriptProcess event(this code runs on every frame - 60 code executions per second), will use a lot of CPU power.

So, to answer Hunting's question....Should all servers decide to remove all client side code and go back to old days?
They could if they want. It will improve performance no doubt. But will it eradicate laggers?

Take Vicewar 6,7,9 for example. They all had minimal GUI and client side usage. It is a global event, so I ensured that it is as lightweight as possible.


But whenever you put 30+ players in the same area, the potatos will fry. VW9 after war celebration had 60 players in an area for a photo session and it was the worst FPS drop I have ever seen.

KotH and RTV are round based game modes, so they teleport all players in the same area. Hence, problem is more visible in these servers when they reach higher player count.
In my experience the number of players in vicinity has much more impact on FPS than client side scripts on RTV/KotH.

King of the Hill(KotH) is announcing a new major update - KotH 2.0


New Features

A lot of players have requested the addition of Ruger and HP addon to the server. We have introduced both as a new weapon class.

Medic Class


Medic is a new supportive weapon class

It has the Shotgun and Ruger as starting weapons and the Medikit which unlocks on a kill spree of 3.
The Medikit

The Medikit is a custom weapon, which looks like a Briefcase.

You can use the Medikit by clicking LMB, which will deploy a healing sphere with your team color.

Team mates who enter that sphere are healed gradually.

When total HP has been healed above a threshold, the medikit expires and disappears.

New Medals and Commendations
Added a Healer Medal when you successfuly deploy a medikit that completes it's threshold healing.

Added a Pyromaniac Commendation for highest burns in a round.

Now everyone can join Dr.Shawn's gang by earning the Certified Doctor Commendation by being the top healer of a round.



Demolition Class
The Demolition class has not seen much love since the game mode released. I've wanted to buff it and see how it plays out.
RPG close range usage restriction has been removed. You are allowed to explode yourself and others in their face with point blank RPG.
Although, RPG unlockable ammo has been reduced to 3, to keep it balanced.




Other Updates:

  • Added /spawnwep (and /delspawnwep) command. This remembers your Handgun preference even if you disconnect.
  • Added /ignore command to block incoming toxic chat.
  • Fixed the big freeze lag that happened on round end. (This hopefully fixed the crashes too).
  • On connection, players see a notification that their game could freeze for upto 30 seconds on loading all the client side magic.
  • Spectator experience has been improved. They experience all the medals, sounds of the spectate target.
  • Left key now works when toggling spectate target.
  • Spectators in competitive mode can now see the round end menu. Press 1/2/3.
  • Fixed a bug with medals and commendations count.
  • Added /ann command for admins.
  • New Spawn Lobby in South Point Mall.
  • Added a teleport pickup in Spawn Lobby for players who incorrectly spawn in lobby instead of the base.

We will be working on the other technical details - post match stats, detailed logs, medals and commendations display on our upcoming webstats page. Until then our main focus is on a balanced and enjoyable game mode.

We are prepared to host more matches, so if anyone would like to assemble a team and challenge anyone, let us know!

Guidelines for Participants

Anyone is free to record, stream as they wish.
