Welp, it seems Jualian Assange - the founder of WikiLeaks is running for senate in Australia. While being stuck in the Ecuadorian embassy in London and has announced it on a crappy rap video. It's a strange world indeed.

Farewell Board / Goodbye (sort of)
« on: December 18, 2012, 05:06:53 pm »
It has come to my attention that in a few days (December 21st) the world will end and humanity will cease to exist. How you say? There are many candidates: global warming, solar flares, WWIII, jews or everything at once! Ether way, one thing is certain: were all fucked.
This is NOT a resignation, but rather a goodbye since I am convinced that VU will soon be virtually non-existent because everyone will go AFK in attempts to save themselves from certain doom.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say goodbye to my beloved community:

Hphm.. FUCK YOU FAGGOTS. I NEVER LIKED ANY OF YOU. YOU'RE ALL BUNCH OF DRAMA WHORES PLAYING A SHITTY 10 YEAR OLD GAME ON THE WORST MOD EVER DESIGNED!!!!11 I MEAN COME ON. Debating Board / BitCoins - Currency of the future?
« on: July 31, 2012, 02:21:00 pm »

Just a week ago I was surfing trough the net and encountered BitCoins or BTCs. At first it seemed like a scam that's too good to be true. But the more I looked into it, the more in-genius the project seemed.

To put into context BitCoins are a cryptographic currency that's maintained by special open source P2P software. It has it's own value and it is not tied to any other currency or resource. There's none in-charge, no main server and BTCs are produced by a predefined rate. To use it you don't need to register, it requires no usernames, emails or passwords. All transactions are done trough special addresses which are anonymous and untraceable. Your addresses and BTCs are literally saved on your computer. It's designed so it would make it impossible for anyone to forge BTCs or abuse the system in any other way. Although assuming that your BTCs are stored on your computer it does make theft fairly easy :P

Currently it's mostly used for purchasing of illegal guns and drugs on websites such as silkroad lots of stuff.

Debating Board / self-awareness = supernatural?
« on: June 14, 2012, 05:52:10 am »
Ive always found the concept of self-awareness so mind blowing that I couldn't explain it in any rational way. Ive also never heard of anyone discussing this and I really feel like sharing a piece of my mind :P

When you think about it we aren't that different from robots. Sure were made of more elastic and natural materials, but the architecture is pretty familiar. But were not really referred to as the same. Hell, we don't even refer to them as living beings.
If you happened  to 'kill' a robot programed to act like a human, society wouldn't try to punish you. But why is that? I mean the robot acted exactly like a person getting murdered. Many would answer that the reason lies in the fact that a robot can't feel pain,  it can just act like it does. If you asked that person why so, he would likely answer that robots aren't self-aware.
But then you begin to wonder. Why do I have self-awareness? Why aren't I - as a biological machine, not as disconnected from 'reality' as a robot?
When you think about it, you can't really tell if anyone besides you is aware ether. I mean they can act like they are, but do they have that higher level? Maybe I'm the only one that can do this? Wow... What an ego boost!
Wait, wait.. What's that 'higher level', or 'sense of reality' to begin with? Is it just an illusion my psyche is pulling on me? But it can't be, that goes against my logic. Just the fact that I'm aware of the fact I'm reflecting upon this right now makes the idea of my mind interfering invalid. Or is it just my crappy logic?

This is probably the only seemingly supernatural concept that I have ever encountered.

What do you guys think? Is self-awareness just a trick of the mind, or is it something that's beyond our psychology?

Script Showroom / ASCII in sockets
« on: May 09, 2012, 06:42:19 am »
Not sure what board I should post this in. But I guess it's more of a showroom topic than support.
This idea was floating in my head for a while since I began using sockets a few years ago. And I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

Probably the first thing you notice when you decide to learn how to send shit through the internet is that it MUST be in the form of a string. Many people find this highly frustrating because the majority of server's data (including VCMP) consists of numbers. Which means you're forced to find creative ways import them into strings.

But this is not what I'm addressing. The second thing you realize is that when you send data, every single integer in your messages must be turned into a byte. Which is completely different when you move the numerical data trough a computer. Because it allows you to store far larger numbers than 0-9 to a single byte.

Now what's a byte? A byte is a memory unit that consists of 8 bits. Each bit can have two different states - true & false.
Which means a byte can have 256 different combinations. 256 different symbols you can store in a single byte.
Symbols that form the ASCII standard:

That means if you assign a predetermined numerical value for each symbol you can hold 256  different numerical values (Probably 0-255).
By now you probably got the point.

How do you use this method?

Let's say we a have a message that a server wants to send to it's client.
And it was "169" - This message would take 3 bytes of data. Now if you made an algorithm for converting it...
It could be turned to "☺" and wolah! You just saved 3x of space!

But what about values that go beyond 255? Like 256.

No problem. In that case we just convert "25" and leave "6" be. At the end of the day we are guaranteed to save at least 2x of bandwidth.

What about more complex stuff?

Let's say that the message contains "15499145" it could be converted to: "SAY" Got it?
I converted 154 to 'S', 99 to 'A' and 145 to 'Y'. So we turned a 8 byte message to 3 bytes.

What about text?

This method can be used on text too! VCMP let's you chat with less than a 100 difirent symbols.
Which means you can shorten your text strings at least 2x.

But won't this make my server need more computer power?

If you actually got to the point when you want to ask this, I have only one response: Go kill yourself.
Seriously? These aren't the late 80's and early 90's. I'm sure your server/client can handle constant string manipulation.

To finish the post I'd like to say that this seems like a very useful method for people that want to cut bandwidth for their applications.
It's flexible and it can be used for many different approaches and combinations.

Off Topic / Skirmant's Daily Rage - mIRC server list
« on: May 04, 2012, 07:48:14 am »
I recently was installing mIRC - everyone's favorite IRC client.
And in the install menu something unexpected happened.

You can now install it with out the default server list?!
You guys know the server list right? When we install mIRC we all act like this:

Quote from: All of us
OH BOY! I can't wait to see the giant and pointless server list that mIRC is going to shove down my throat.
I'll go around connecting to random & abandoned networks that I have absolutely nothing in common with, because it's fun!

Once I realized this is not an illusion I shed a tear and gently, but swiftly unmarked that fucker.
I cheerfully finished the installation, started mIRC.exe and opened the server list with a smile to add my shit in.
And saw this...

I froze. I released a small *sight* and closed mIRC.
"I'm not going to waste my time pushing that gay ass button to clear it. I'm going to get rid of the list quickly." I said.
Went to the program's directory, located servers.ini and killed it irrecoverably.
I didn't just fucking delete it, I ERASED it - every single cursed bit of the shitty file was turned to straight 0's.

Then I came back to mIRC and opened the the server list. And it was still there... I closed mIRC opened my browser and surfed the internet for answers.
I somewhere read that the server list is placed in the program registry. I opened registry editor and completely removed mIRC's interface. "This should be it" - I said.

Once again I opened mIRC praying to god that the list is gone. I closed my eyes before clicking "Select server...".
When I opened my eyes, I saw something that came to my surprise... IT WAS STILL THERE!!! FUCK YOU MIRC!!!!! GHHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

Feeling defeated in the war I waged, I slowly deleted each server one, by one.
After a few minutes of bullshit. It was done. It was gone. But so was my dignity.

 :(

Off Topic / Super Jail! - Best cartoon ever?!
« on: May 01, 2012, 08:12:27 pm »
I randomly stumbled upon a few clips of it on YouTube and I was intermediately hooked.
It revolves around the story of a "Super Jail" that was built and managed by a young billionaire that believes in a more "humane" way to threat criminals.
The humor is crude, dark and twisted, but somehow entertaining...

Here's a couple of episodes:
